So, in the next 24 hours, I need to figure out what the hell I'm going to write my CBA on. It needs to be on an internal conflict in Kazakhstan that has 3 of the 5 SPICE (Social, Political, Interaction, Cultural, Economical) factors in it. This needs to be a college level paper with AT LEAST 9 different, cited sources. This conflict needs to have happened post-1945, and needs to have been resolved.
My problem is I CAN'T FIND A FUCKING CONFLICT IN FUCKING KAZAKHSTAN! Nothing happens in that piece of land that is just a buffer between China and Russia! All the conflicts are either ongoing, or do not meet the SPICE factor number (one or two factors, not 3) The BEST I have so far are religious conflicts between Christians and Muslims, but that's just one spice factor. I CAN'T WRITE A COLLEGE LEVEL PAPER THAT'S 7 FULL PAGES LONG ON THAT!!!! And about 85% of the conflicts were instigated by Moscow during the USSR era. these don't work since the USSR doesn't exist anymore, and are now considered INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS! ARGGGGHHHHH!!!! Fuck Kazakhstan, Fuck AP World history, Fuck CBA'S and fuck Kazakhstani news websites THAT I NEED TO CITE, BUT ARE ONLY IN FUCKING KAZAKHSTANI!!!
Jesus, why couldn't some other poor bastard get this horrendous, despicable, useless, dreadful country that has nothing of value whatsoever in it? And it's not like I'm doing this last minute either. I've spent 6 hours over the past WEEK trying to find a conflict. I've gotten to the point where I CAN READ KAZAKHSTANI!
Then I need to compare this resolved conflict to an ongoing one somewhere in the world. This would be the easy part, IF THERE WAS A CONFLICT TO SPEAK OF!!!! worst of all, this is a 300 point paper. This makes or breaks students. I CANNOT afford to do bad on this paper. FUUUUUUCK!!!!
TL;DR: I'm pissed off since i need to write a huge paper on Kazakhstan
Also, I should point out I have nothing against Kazakhstan, it's just that this paper will destroy my grade.
Have a GsX for your time

what about the time between kazakhstan declaring sovereignty in october 1990 and independence in december 1991? That is an unusual enough ocurrance that you might be able to squeeze the requisite number of pages out.

I wonder if I make my AP US students feel this bad. I brutally quiz them and make them write DBQs and FRQS all the time but I don't make them use any citations other than test related ones.

On topic: I'd consider their recent electoral/dictatorial issues and the interaction of them with the global financial crisis, Kazazkstan's GDP, Russian vs ethnic Kazakh populations, external influence on banking and the energy industry, and the influence of Russia and China on Kazakhi policy. I bet you can stretch it to reach more factors. Dictators are always juicy topics and the guy has ruled since 1990.

Resolved? Ouch. Their central modern issue hasn't been, other than the split from the Soviet Union. About all he can argue is the Soviet Union still exists, influence wise, as Russia. His other choice is the political parties merging for "resolution."

The Stans (if you will) are actually pretty interesting. Checkout the Jeltoqsan riots in 1986 is Kazakhstan. There's definitely some spice factors there. A shame you didn't get Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan those countries have some pretty crazy internal conflicts and issues that are good models for the region.

Thanks, I will try to do that! I'm going to be taking APUS history next year (if I do this CBA well) so i'll be back here with more questions haha! I spent an extra hour researching Kazakhstan after posting this, and came across the "December" protests in 1986. I could potentially weave that in to a paper that spans about 20 years of Kazakh history.

I was hoping for Yugoslavia. I could've written a 10 page analysis on Yugoslavia no problem.
I found the Jeltoqsan riots, and I will most likely use that, but i'll weave in the 20-25 years of history post Jeltoqsan in there as well!
